Safe Buying & Selling in Malta

Malta's Garage is built around escrow-protected payments, verified seller ratings, and a buyer confirmation system - so every transaction is covered from start to finish. Follow these guidelines to get the most out of our safe second-hand marketplace.

For Buyers
  • Read the listing description carefully before bidding or buying.
  • Check the seller's rating and reviews before buying high-value items.
  • Always pay through Malta's Garage - never pay outside the platform.
  • For hand-to-hand: inspect the item thoroughly before clicking Confirm Receipt on your order page.
  • For MaltaPost: do not confirm receipt until you've checked the item.
  • If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.
For Sellers
  • Be honest about the item's condition - accurate listings lead to better reviews.
  • Only list items you actually own and can deliver.
  • For hand-to-hand: payment is secured in escrow before the meetup - hand over the item, then wait for the buyer to confirm receipt on their order page.
  • Ship promptly and provide a real tracking number.
  • Never ask buyers to pay outside the platform.
  • Respond to buyer messages promptly.

Safe Meeting Tips (Hand-to-Hand)

Choose a public place

Meet at a café, shopping centre, or petrol station - somewhere busy and well-lit.

Bring someone along

For high-value items, bring a friend or family member.

Meet during daylight hours

Daytime meetings are generally safer and easier for inspecting items.

Inspect before confirming

Test the item and check it matches the listing before clicking Confirm Receipt on your order page.

Red Flags - Avoid These

  • A seller or buyer asks you to pay or receive money outside Malta's Garage
  • Someone pressures you to complete a transaction quickly without proper checks
  • A new account with no reviews selling an expensive item at an unusually low price
  • A buyer asks you to ship before payment has cleared
  • Requests to communicate via WhatsApp or other external channels to avoid platform oversight
  • Anyone asking for your password, OTP code, or payment card details
